Trial with a small signup fee

Collect a low commitment fee to start the trial — it filters out tyre-kickers while the recurring price stays delayed until the trial converts.

  • $5 to start a 7-day trial
  • Recurring price delayed to conversion
  • $29/mo after the trial
No credit card required
FreeRecurring billing

Pairing a trial with a small signup fee gives you the best of both worlds: the customer commits a token amount upfront (which dramatically improves trial quality and conversion) while the full recurring price stays delayed until the trial ends. In ArraySubs the signup fee is charged at checkout even during a free trial — only the recurring price waits. This recipe builds a $5 fee to start a 7-day trial, then $29/month.

What you get
  • Customer pays $5.00 at checkout to begin the trial.
  • No recurring charge during the 7-day trial.
  • First $29.00 renewal one billing cycle after conversion.
  • The $5 fee is one-time and never repeats.

Set up

Set it up in 4 steps

A step-by-step guide drawn from the ArraySubs user manual. Open the linked page for the full walkthrough and screenshots.

  1. Set the recurring price and schedule

Create the product with Regular price $29.00, enable Subscription, Billing Period = Month, Interval = 1.

    Create & Configure Subscription Products
  2. Add the trial

In the Subscription tab set Trial Length = 7 and Trial Period = Day.

    Create & Configure Subscription Products
  3. Add the signup fee

Enter 5 in Sign-up Fee. Because a signup fee is charged even during a free trial, the customer pays $5.00 at checkout.

  4. Decide on card capture

Keep Require Payment Method on (with Stripe) for automatic conversion, or off to let customers pay the first invoice manually.

Notes & edge cases

The trial period does not count toward the completed-payments counter; that starts when the trial converts.
Each variation of a variable product can have its own trial and signup fee.
The $5 fee shows as a separate ‘Subscription Signup Fee’ line at checkout.
