A signup fee plus a flat monthly fee is the most common subscription shape: the customer pays a one-time charge to get started (onboarding, setup, activation, or a welcome kit), then the same recurring amount on every renewal. In ArraySubs this needs no code and no extra plugin — the recurring price is just the product's regular WooCommerce price, and the signup fee is a single field in the Subscription tab. The example below builds a $50 signup fee + $100/month plan, but the same three settings model any amounts you like.

What you get
  • First order charges $150.00 ($100 first period + $50 signup fee).
  • Every renewal charges a flat $100.00 — the signup fee never repeats.
  • Customers see the signup fee broken out as a line item at checkout.
  • Works on manual and automatic (Stripe/PayPal/Paddle) renewals.

Set up

Set it up in 5 steps

A step-by-step guide drawn from the ArraySubs user manual. Open the linked page for the full walkthrough and screenshots.

  1. Create the product and set the price

Add a new product and enter $100.00 as the Regular price on the General tab. This regular price is the recurring charge — there is no separate subscription-price field.

    Create & Configure Subscription Products
  2. Enable the Subscription checkbox

In the Product data panel, tick the Subscription checkbox (next to Virtual and Downloadable). A new Subscription tab appears.

    Create & Configure Subscription Products
  3. Set the billing schedule

In the Subscription tab, set Billing Period to Month, Billing Interval to 1, and leave Subscription Length at 0 so it renews until cancelled.

    Create & Configure Subscription Products
  4. Add the signup fee

Enter 50 in the Sign-up Fee field. It is added to the first order as a separate fee line labelled “Subscription Signup Fee” and is never charged on renewals.

    Create & Configure Subscription Products
  5. Publish and verify on the product page

Publish, then open the product. The pricing summary should read “$100.00 / month with a $50.00 signup fee.”

Good to know

Notes & edge cases

The signup fee is taxed according to your WooCommerce fee tax settings.
Subscription prices are locked in at purchase — changing the product price later only affects new subscriptions.
A coupon applies to the recurring product price, not the signup fee (the fee follows standard WooCommerce fee behaviour).
