Restrict pages and posts by subscription

The core paywall — gate any content type to active subscribers and show non-members a custom message or redirect.

  • Gate any post type
  • Active-subscription condition
  • Custom message or redirect

FreeRestrict & gate

The foundation of any membership is gating content to subscribers. A Member Access Post Type rule gates pages, posts, or any custom post type behind a condition like Has Active Subscription, and shows everyone else a message, redirect, or 403. This recipe builds the core ‘members-only content’ rule.

What you get
  • Members see the content; everyone else sees your message.
  • Works on pages, posts, and custom post types.
  • Choose how restricted items appear in archives.
  • No code — rules-based gating.

Notes & edge cases

Per-post restrictions (set on the post itself) take priority over general Post Type rules.
Messages support merge tags like {pricing_link} and {login_link}; a global default message is used if none is set.
Conditions default to active and trial subscriptions — add on-hold/paused explicitly if you want those to keep access.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Yes. The Post Type rule works on any registered post type — pages, posts, products, and custom types — by entire type, taxonomy term, or specific IDs.

Whatever you choose: a custom restriction message (default), a redirect to a page like pricing, or a 403 Forbidden response.
