Refund to store credit instead of cash

Make the customer whole without sending money back to their card — convert the refund into store credit they can spend on renewals and new orders.

  • Refund → store credit
  • Revenue stays in-store
  • Auto-applies to renewals
No credit card required
ProSwitching, features & credit

A refund doesn’t have to mean cash leaving your business. With Store Credit (Pro), the WooCommerce refund screen gains an ‘As Store Credit’ method: instead of a gateway refund, the amount is deposited into the customer’s credit balance, which then auto-applies to future renewals. The customer is made whole, you keep the cash, and the relationship survives. This recipe enables refund-to-credit.

What you get
  • Refunds become spendable credit, not cash back.
  • Revenue stays in your store; gateway fees avoided.
  • Credit auto-applies to the customer’s next renewals.
  • Customer gets a Credit Added email with their new balance.

Good to know

Notes & edge cases

Guest orders can’t be refunded as credit — the order must belong to a registered customer.
Refund-to-credit doesn’t cancel the subscription and there’s no one-click undo (deduct manually via Store Credit Management).
Credit is added at the customer level; it doesn’t reduce the WooCommerce order total in reports.
