  • Size & type limits
  • Gravatar fallback
No credit card required
FreeMembership

A profile photo makes a membership feel like an account, not a transaction. Profile Builder (Free) adds an avatar uploader to My Account (and the admin user screen), with a configurable max file size and allowed file types, falling back to Gravatar when none is set. This recipe enables member avatars.

What you get
  • Members upload a profile photo from My Account.
  • Enforce max size and allowed file types.
  • Instant upload via REST — no page reload.
  • Falls back to Gravatar when none is set.

Good to know

Notes & edge cases

Avatar upload is optional by design — it can’t be made required.
Files are stored in a protected uploads directory, but avatar URLs are directly accessible — don’t use for sensitive files.
Removing an avatar deletes the file and falls back to Gravatar.
