Let members turn off auto-renew

Offer a softer option than cancelling — members switch off auto-renew and pay each renewal by invoice instead.

  • Off ≠ cancel
  • Manual invoice next cycle
  • Re-enable anytime
No credit card required
ProMembership

Some members don’t want to cancel, they just want to stop automatic charges. With automatic payments (Pro), the Allow Auto-Renew Toggle lets members switch off auto-renew from My Account — the subscription stays active but the next renewal becomes a manual invoice they pay themselves. This recipe enables the auto-renew toggle.

What you get
  • Members stop auto-charges without cancelling.
  • Renewals continue as manual invoices.
  • They can re-enable auto-renew anytime.
  • A softer alternative that retains the subscription.

Good to know

Notes & edge cases

Turning auto-renew off does not cancel the subscription and does not delay renewals — invoices still generate on schedule, only auto-collection stops.
Re-enabling requires a valid payment method; an expired/removed method must be refreshed first.
Gateway behavior differs: Stripe stops auto-charges, PayPal cancels the billing agreement, Paddle pauses at Paddle.
