FreeRetention & coupons

A ‘free first month’ coupon is an acquisition staple — the customer pays $0 to start via a 100%-off code, then renews at full price. Unlike a trial, it’s a coupon you can hand out selectively (email, partners, win-back). ArraySubs builds it as a one-time 100% coupon. This recipe creates ‘FREEMONTH’.

What you get
  • First payment is $0 with the code applied.
  • Renewals charge full price from the first renewal.
  • Hand it out selectively (email, partners, win-back).
  • More controllable than a site-wide free trial.

Good to know

Notes & edge cases

If a payment method is required at checkout, a card may still be collected even though the first order is $0.
Want the recurring price free for the first month then full price? One-time 100% already achieves that on the initial order.
Renewals are full price — this is not a recurring free coupon.

FAQ

Questions, answered

A trial is a product setting available to everyone who buys; a free-first-month coupon is a code you distribute selectively, with WooCommerce usage limits and expiry under your control.

Depending on gateway and your Require Payment Method setting, a payment method may still be captured at checkout for the upcoming renewals.
